Peels

Chemical Peels are solutions that are applied to the skin to improve sun damage, discoloration, wrinkles, and acne.

Satisfied Patient getting cosmetic treatment by Dermatology Associates Medical Group

Chemical peels may be subdivided based on depth of penetration into superficial, medium, and deep peels. At Dermatology Associates Medical Group, we perform superficial and medium peels.

Superficial Peels gently remove a portion of the top layer of skin (epidermis) and are helpful in treating certain forms of acne, improving blotchy darkened skin, and for mild sun damage. Generally, a series of treatments are performed every three weeks. Periodic maintenance treatments are often beneficial. Superficial peels typically contain glycolic or salicylic acid. These low risk procedures generally produce mild transient skin irritation and mild to moderate peeling. We use the following superficial peeling agents:

The Theraplex Peel: Our gentlest peel. Contains salycylic acid. Used primarily for certain forms of acne.

The Vitalize Peel: Utilizes alpha-hydroxyacids and retinoic acid to provide a strong but gentle peel. Even after one peel, most patients notice improvement in skin texture and color. More significant results are noted after a series of treatments. The vitalize peel helps various pigmentary problems, such as age/sun spots, melasma (mask of pregnancy), and acne. This treatment is safe and effective for all skin types.

The Vi Peel: Our strongest superficial peel. May see improvement after one treatment. Used primarily for melasma (mask of pregnancy) and sun damaged skin.

Medium Peels remove old skin to the top portion of the second skin layer (dermis) and work well for significant sun damage in individuals with fair skin complexions. Mild to moderate wrinkles are also improved. Most commonly the solution contains trichloracetic acid (TCA) in various concentrations. Peeling and crusting begin within several days of the treatment and last for approximately ten days. The result is skin that is smoother, softer, and more uniformed in color.

You deserve the best skin care possible.
